COME AND DISCOVER THE FODOMA VALLEY, ITS HISTORY AND TRADITIONS
History of the Fodoma Valley
Not much is known about the ancient history of the Fodom Valley; the earliest records concern Andraz Castle, built around the year 1000 and still open to visitors.
Fodom, a Ladin name for the place was for a long time a possession of Tyrol and administered by the Prince-Bishops of Brixen.
On the mountains surrounding the valley some of the bloodiest episodes of World War I were fought.
Livinallongo or rather with the German name of the time, Buchenstein, remained a possession of the House of Habsburg until the end of the Great War, from 1917 onwards the territories south of the Brenner Pass were part of Italy and the 5 Ladin valleys were divided between the provinces of Bolzano, Trento and Belluno

TRADITIONS OF THE FODOMA VALLEY
Ladin identity with its history, preservation of traditions and language are very much felt within the population.
Examples of this are the various associations formed over time such as the Folk Group, born from the desire to hand down dances and songs. Other examples are the Fodom Choir, the Band both youth and official, and many others.
At the Livinallongo dairy, milk from the farms is processed and transformed into various types of cheese, from fresh to aged, ricotta, butter, stracchino, and other local products.
